Development and falling into a spider's web
Written by A. Muhammad Mamdouh At the beginning of the 1980s, the features of the phenomenon of globalization were formed, as a philosophy and application tools. This is a phenomenon that aimed to work to remove all barriers. Economic, cultural, and political, between the countries and peoples of the world, under the pretext of improving the lives of peoples through rapprochement and joint cooperation, as the rapid development in communications technology and methods of exchanging information contributed to its growth, in addition to the revolution that targeted media and marketing technology, which facilitated the marketing of ideas and beliefs, in addition to the concepts that were promoted under the umbrella of globalization, which contributed to increasing the area of freedoms, facilitating the movement of individuals, and the freedom to move capital from one place to another. In light of globalization, the world has become like a small village, in which all the peoples of the world live, affected and influenced by each other. What happens in China, for example, affects the world as a whole, and directs decision-makers at the international, national and local levels. As a result of this situation, what is local has been linked to what is global, and all human, economic, social, cultural, and political activities have been globalized, which has allowed the polar states in the global system - which are the countries with military, economic, scientific, and technological weight - to have the influence and ability to influence the management of the tools of globalization, control them, and harness them in their quest for economic, cultural, and political hegemony, and to maintain their advanced position in international influence, especially since globalization has fueled conflict. And international competition between the poles, in the economic field, which extended to the cultural and civilizational field of peoples, instead of cooperation for a more luxurious life for humanity, as advocates of globalization claimed. Cultural globalization is considered one of the forms of this hegemony, as it aimed to melt all the cultures, lifestyles, beliefs, and ideas of the peoples, and melt them in one crucible, to produce an agreed-upon global culture. However, in reality, that global culture, with its various components, reflected the culture of the poles that manage the devices and tools of globalization, seeking to subject the world with its capabilities to hegemony. Cultural globalization has taken a dangerous turn in the way of threatening the progress of the peoples of the world, by imposing a single-minded culture with its moral and value dimensions, and marketing it to the peoples of the world as the only model for progress and sophistication, under the name of global culture. This trend is supported by a global media system that issues a message stating that “diversity and cultural and civilizational differences among the peoples of the world have been a source of conflict throughout history, and in order to get rid of that conflict and for peace to prevail among human beings, we must work to produce one global religion and culture, alongside a global government, which is "It's been shaping up for a while." In light of this situation, criticism and attacks were directed at everything that was inherited, including ideas, values, ethics, social visions, and customs, and this extended to religions, since they are an inherent part of the culture of society. All the tools of globalization have been harnessed to work together, including the global media machine and research centers, to educate and qualify preachers, to prove the futility of this cultural heritage, and to issue a call to the peoples of the world that this heritage is one of the obstacles to development and urbanization. The interest of those who seek to achieve hegemony and control the world’s capabilities in the cultural heritage of peoples can be attributed to the fact that it is considered one of the barriers against the idea of hegemony. Every cultural heritage automatically includes factors for its preservation and those who carry it. The common destiny and the unity of culture are all factors that require defense and repelling any attempts to control and dominate peoples. Therefore, the work was to remove and marginalize the culture of the peoples, in its current form, as an influential factor in the social and economic life of the peoples of the world, and to try to bring it to a weak state, and to make these peoples lose their ability as a social reference, and lose their influence in the lives of the peoples, and to replace it with global culture, under the umbrella of cultural globalization, and to complete hegemony, starting with controlling the collective mind of the peoples and working to shape it, and ending with controlling the economic resources, and employing them to serve the poles; Thus, the world fell into the web of globalization, just as prey fall unconsciously into the web of a spider, which anesthetizes the prey to complete control over it. As a result of these conditions, there was a direct threat to the economic, cultural, and political sovereignty of countries, especially the Arab and Islamic countries, which caused the ignition of sectarian conflict, as happened in the Arab world, and its entry into the state of chaos that the world is now suffering from, and thus the world has become, under globalization, between two opposing forces; A force that seeks to unite and converge under the umbrella of concepts, ostensibly claiming global peace and the advancement of humanity. Another force seeks conflict, rivalry, and competition at the same time, in order to try to preserve the cultural specificity and economic gains of this force. After the cultural heritage of a single nation included diversity and was considered a source of cultural richness for it throughout the ages, in light of cultural globalization, it has become a source that threatens survival and continuity. The greatest calamity is the tools provided by globalization, which helped the passage of dark organizations, the dissemination of misguided satanic ideas within human society, and their marketing through the window of globalization, taking advantage of rapprochement and removing barriers. Because there was a suitable soil to accept all of this, after every heritage, including religion, had been attacked and weakened as a moral reference, that heritage contained natural antioxidants to confront these ideas. Among the groups most affected by these conditions are young people and current generations. As a result of this situation, the connection between the local and the global, and the call for concepts of cultural globalization, the vast majority of young people have become loyal and affiliated with global culture, not local culture, in light of cultural globalization, and it has become what shapes their conscience and ideas, and thus their dreams and interests. Anyone who looks at the reality of Egyptian society today, and the transformation taking place in the Egyptian personality, and the similar deformation that contradicts the cultural heritage, finds that we are facing a cultural, moral, intellectual and value-based crisis, extending to an identity crisis for the current and future generations. We are not exaggerating if we describe it as socio-cultural schizophrenia, a condition described by the conflict of the individual’s societal behavior between two different social types, each of which has a different reference in terms of values and style of thinking and behavior, which has created many social crises extending to the economy and politics. Societal crises are the result of the loss of cultural heritage, or its distortion and neutralization of its role in building the individual’s personality. This has been helped by the state’s withdrawal, over the past decades, from formulating a true cultural civilizational project to build the human being, deriving its tools from the cultural heritage. Despite the attempts made by the state now to fill this void, it is still a weak role, and does not live up to the magnitude of the problem. Over the past decades, the Egyptian state did not pay attention to these risks and work to confront them. Rather, one of its priorities was to bring about economic development, and to focus on conflict and global economic competition, and how to confront it, without realizing that supporting national identity in its cultural, social, and religious dimensions is one of the most important factors that affect social stability, but also economic and political, as it is an issue related to development, and it is also an issue of national security in light of this conflict. But what is the way out for us, as individuals and peoples, to escape from the web of this spider’s trap? Is it cultural globalization? To begin with, international parties currently in light of globalization are either actors or objects. In order to be effective, we must first preserve the components of the national and cultural identity of society, and get out of the framework of the cultural hegemony of globalization, by adopting lifestyles based on Egypt’s cultural stock, and working to export it. From here stems the difficulty, although it is not impossible, considering that this issue is an issue of national security and existence. We need a project in which the state’s cultural, media, youth, sports, social, and religious institutions participate, in addition to national civil society organizations...etc. They work together, and not alone, to formulate a cultural renaissance project to restore Egyptian identity. A project that works to treat the distortion that has befallen the Egyptian character, and to complement this, the clergy must be called above sectarianism, and they must work together in a real and tangible way, not formally, by uniting their efforts, working to spread peace, love, and respect for the other, and for the good of society as a whole to prevail in their thinking. Confronting the flood of cultural globalization will only come about if we have cultural protection systems that work to consolidate the authentic Egyptian identity, in contrast to cultural globalization. We need a civilizational project that goes against the trend of cultural globalization, confronts the negatives of globalization, and is based on the Egyptian identity and cultural heritage, with its cultural stock based on Islamic and Christian values. There are a number of proposals to achieve this. The most important of them are: 1. Restoring education to the Ministry of Education, and integrating issues of identity and heritage into educational curricula. 2. Developing colleges of education, and restoring the characteristics of a multi-tasking community teacher 3. Reformulating the role of cultural and media institutions, and restoring their developmental role. 4. Imbuing our daily lives with dimensions of national and cultural identity, such as maximizing the role of the Arabic language and popular folklore, and reviving Egyptian schools of literature and arts. 5. Establishing centers to develop various arts within society, linking them to cultural heritage and nurturing creative people. 6. Restoring Egypt’s soft power centers, which in the past were a shining beacon of influence and shaping the conscience and thought of the peoples of the region. 7. Restore religious institutions to their role in spreading and consolidating the system of values and morals derived from the divine religions. 8. Activating the role of civil society organizations, with the tools they have in promoting the issue of national identity and stability. All this is with the importance of emphasizing the reflection of the state’s plans, in various fields, especially cultural and social legacies, and considering it an issue of national security and existence, so that development bears its true fruits, in enhancing stability and preserving the land, so that we are not surprised, after a while, by another people, inhabiting the land of Egypt, who emotionally belong to a virtual world, or to another culture; A people whose members do not share any common rules, and who are easily manipulated to achieve plans that fall into a spider's web.
